[News] Kelis’ "Fleshtone" Only Sells 7,833 Copies In The US

This makes me VERY sad. Peep the whole story from That Grape Juice:

Despite scoring a number one on the Billboard Dance Chart with ‘Acapella’, Kelis’ ‘FleshTone’ has debuted on the Billboard 200 chart with one of the year’s worst opening tally’s. Find out just how much the former Mrs. Nas sold first week after the jump…According to the ever-reliable Hits Daily Double, ‘Flesh Tone’ limps in at a lowly #46 on the US chart this week, after selling through just 7833 copies. latest album

This marks the lowest sales of the eclectic singer’s career; a career which was never particularly characterized by high sales to begin with.

It’s all rather unfortunate for Ms. Rogers, as this the worst possible start she could have with her new label (will.i.am/Interscope), and put simply, the album isn’t actually that bad. What’s more, the often cited ‘no promotion’ excuse won’t suffice, as Kelis made major appearances on many a show, and worked the International circuit as well (to little success).

DAMN. Well I bought your album Kelis, [as I’ve bought all the others] and you’ll always have a fan in me!

[News] Doug E. Fresh Talks "Teach Me How To Dougie" x Future Collabs

Doug E. Fresh has been exciting the crowds since he had a curly flattop and a Bally’s jacket — the man just doesn’t age. Not only does he remain a relevant performer 30 years later by touring around the globe all year ’round, but his younger peers are keeping his name on the radio by putting his moniker in their songs.

Lil’ Wil dropped “My Dougie” — which, of course, is slang for being fresh — a couple of years ago, and in 2010, the youngsters have been all about the Cali Swag District dance anthem “Teach Me How to Dougie.”

“I look at it as a blessing,” Fresh said about getting props from a younger generation of artists.

[News] It’s Splitsville for Donnie Klang x Bad Boy…. [SIGH…]

Former ‘Making the Band’ contestant, Donnie Klang, has announced his split from Bad Boy Entertainment exclusively to Billboard. The [Pop] and R&B singer released one solo album on the label in 2008 and is now working on singles through Eight72 Entertainment, an independent label. Klang said he learned a lot about “the business side of things, not just music,” from Bad Boy and its CEO Sean “Diddy” Combs, but added that, “it’s tough being on a label where the president of the label is also an artist. —Bossip.com

This crew, known as the Wild Bunch, was an influential criminal enterprise, quite similar to Fif’s G-Unit.

Nas as Joaquin Murrieta

Historians paint Joaquin Murrieta as either a coldblooded criminal or a sympathetic Mexican patriot that robbed the rich to give to the poor. The same polarizing view can be attributed to Queensbridge MC Nas. Many consider the hip-hop icon to be a thoughtful cultural poet who spits conscious, uplifting rhymes. Clipse as the Burrow Gang

Reuben “Rube” Burrow and his brother, Jim, turned to crime after the crops on their farm went bad. Though their first train robbery in December 1886 didn’t turn a massive profit, they formed a gang and eventually became the most successful train robbers in the Old West since Jesse James and his crew. Similarly hip-hop’s brothers, Gene “Malice” Thornton and Terrence “Pusha T” Thornton, better known as the Clipse took to a life of rhyme as an alternative to pushing banned product in the streets. The cocaine rap pros made a big splash with their first release Lord Willin’ in 2002, then in 2006 formed The Re-Up Gang record label for the release of their critically acclaimed sophomore album Hell Hath No Fury.

Lupe Fiasco as Deacon

Jim “Deacon Jim” Miller was a deadly outlaw and assassin, yet, he lived a life opposite from what most would expect from him. Miller didn’t smoke or drink and he regularly attended church. Chicago MC Lupe Fiasco can relate to Deacon Jim. He’s a Muslim who’s sworn off alcohol and drugs and is known for murderous 16s.

[News] Rapper Dolla’s Murder Trial Already Facing Controversy

As earlier reported the trial against Aubrey Louis Berry has begun as he has been charged with the murder of former Konvict Muzik rapper, Dolla.

The trial has already shown conflicting stories in the murder and each side is trying to establish whether the shooter or the rapper incited the act.

With prosecution opening the argument, the shooting has been described as a cold case of being a well calculated murder done by Berry who calmly had valet get his car and drove by the body after the shooting.

“Roderick was senselessly gunned down by Aubrey Berry in a hail of gunfire,” said Deputy District Attorny Robert Grace, according to the Associated Press.

The defense, however, is calling the incident a case of self-defense and are stating that Dolla might have urged the shooting to occur when he allegedly told Berry, “Today, you’re going to die.”

In trying to make their case more valid, Berry’s defense attorney, Howard Price, plans to reference some lyrics from the rapper as evidence that Dolla portrayed a violent image.  Along with his music, Price also believes that Dolla was an active member of the Mansfield Crips which could have been a factor in Berry fearing for his life.

As the proceedings go into tomorrow, Crystal Jackson, former girlfriend of the slain rapper, will continue her testimony as she was the last witness to be called following testimonies from employees of Airtran and Southwest Airlines as to what the procedures are for a license gun owner to follow when bringing a firearm onto a plane, according to the Hip-Hop Enquirer.

Dolla, real name Roderick Anthony Burton, was gunned down on May 18, 2009 outside of the Beverly Center shopping mall in Los Angeles, CA.  Being shot at by Berry eight times, four bullets were able to strike and kill Burton.

[News] Jeezy Announces "TM103" Release Date x M.I.A. Announces Official First Single

Mr. Trap or die has given us a date.!

The Atlanta rapper has claimed June 22 as the drop date for his fourth major label LP TM103, Rap-Up.com has learned. He will go up against Eminem’sRecovery, Diddy-Dirty Money’s Last Train to Paris, and labelmate The-Dream’sLove King the same week. Click here for an updated release schedule.

The release date is set. The buzz is growing. And now M.I.A. has chosen the lead single from her eagerly-awaited album.

The “Paper Planes” rapper, who recently returned to the U.S. after visa problems, has selected “XXXO” as the first single from her as-yet-untitled third album. The catchy electro-pop song will be available on iTunes May 11, Rap-Up.com has learned.

“I just feel like ‘XXXO’—it is what it is,” she told Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1. “It’s kinda [about] being disconnected in L.A. and not having cell phone service or just not being able to kinda leave there for 18 months.”
